Young Them is cullen+them’s group for young people ages 10-11. The group will work collaboratively under Artistic Director Hannah Cullen’s direction to create movement and text based material about issues that are important to them. Over the course of the year, the group will work to create a collaborative performance piece to be shared in the studio. Members of Young Them will learn principles of composition, multiple approaches to creating movement material and will also be guided through writing prompts.
Young Them is based on the same principles that Young Dance Collective was founded on – that young people have extraordinary thoughts and opinions to contribute to the world. Together we cultivate a space where young people are asked questions about what they think and are actively listened to. They are then given the opportunity to share their ideas with each other and through their work, with a wider audience.
